Full Description
Widely regarded as possibly the best carrier-borne fighter of WWII the powerful F-4U Corsair dominated the war in the Pacific with a kill ratio of 11:1. Introduced in 1942, over 12,000 Corsairs were built, with some still in service into the 1970s.
Designed by Brian Taylor, this 1:8 scale, 2,082mm (61.5”) wingspan R/C model plan of the Corsair builds into a very accurate scale model. The plan is 3 sheets and shows good detail. The model is of all wood construction, but a moulded cockpit canopy, engine cowling, wing crank fairings and a metal propeller spinner are available. A laser cut wood pack is also available that contains most of the shaped wood parts needed such as the fuselage formers and wing ribs. The model was designed to be powered by a glow engine but experienced modellers should be able to convert it to electric power (details not supplied, so please send us information if you make a successful EP version!) It is not suitable for beginners, either to plan building or model flying.
What’s in a Laser or CNC Cut Wood Pack? – A CNC or laser cut wood pack contains most, if not all, of the intricately shaped parts shown on the plan, which would be difficult or time-consuming to cut out by hand. It does not contain any sheet or strip wood, which you will need to buy separately. Alternatively, you can purchase an Additional Wood Pack, if available. Our Laser or CNC Cut Wood Packs only contain balsa, ply and lite ply and do not include other materials that may be required to complete the model, such as hardwoods, metals and GRP sheet.
What’s in a Short Kit? – A short kit usually contains, where available, the plan, the laser/CNC cut wood pack, additional wood pack, canopy, cowl or any other available Glass Fibre or plastic moulded items.
