Full Description

This 54 inch (1372mm) span 1:6.5 scale parasol wing model of the WW1 German fighter designed by Peter Miller makes an ideal first scale model. Two large, well-detailed sheets give full details of construction, including patterns for making the undercarriage structure and wing struts.

The model is of conventional all-wood construction, but some metalworking skills will be needed to fabricate parts such as the undercarriage and wing struts. A laser-cut wood-pack is available which contains most of the shaped parts needed such as fuselage formers and wing ribs, but you will need an additional sheet and strip wood and ply to complete the model, as well as all the hardware needed. An additional Wood Pack is available also from Sarik. The model was designed to be powered by a .25 cu.in. two-stroke or .30 4-stroke engine, but experienced modellers could probably convert it to electric power

Special thanks to Frank Skilbeck for the pictures of his beautifully built electric version of this Fokker D.VIII

The Full Size: The last Fokker-designed aircraft to become operational with the German Air Force during WWI was the Fokker E.V, which entered service in the final months of the war. The aircraft proved agile and easy to fly but was withdrawn after a number of fatal accidents due to wing failures. Initially, this was blamed on a design fault, but investigation revealed that they were in fact caused by shoddy workmanship and the use of poor-quality materials. Production practices were overhauled and the aircraft was modified and redesignated Fokker D.VIII. Dubbed the Flying Razor by Allied pilots, the D.VIII had the distinction of scoring the last aerial victory of the war.

What’s in a Laser or CNC Cut Wood Pack?

A CNC or Laser Cut Wood Pack contains most, if not all, of the intricately shaped parts shown on the plan, which would be difficult or time-consuming to cut out by hand. It does not contain any sheet or strip wood, which you will need to buy separately. Alternatively, you can purchase an Additional Wood Pack, if available. Our Laser or CNC Cut Wood Packs only contain balsa, ply & lite ply and do not include other materials that may be required to complete the model, such as hardwoods, metals & GRP sheets.

What’s in an Additional Wood Pack?

Our Additional Wood Packs contain MOST of the necessary sheet and strip wood needed to complete a model being built from a Sarik Hobbies plan and using the associated Laser Cut Wood Pack, if available. We stock a wide range of balsa, ply and spruce in popular sheet and strip sizes but even so we cannot guarantee to be able to supply all the wood necessary to complete each model. So some additional purchases may be required from other modeling wood stockists if not available from Sarik Hobbies. Our Additional Wood Packs only contain balsa, ply and spruce wood in the stock sizes as used by our suppliers and do not include other materials that may be required to complete the model such as hardwoods, metals & GRP sheets. What’s in a Short Kit?

A short kit usually contains, where available, the plan, the laser/CNC cut wood pack, additional wood pack, canopy, cowl or any other available Glass Fibre or plastic moulded items.
