A 3½” gauge internal combustion driven diesel shunter designed by Edgar T Westbury. The plan shows the general arrangement and details. See Plan No. PE1 for details of a suitable power plant.

Full Description

No. 1831 was the first experimental diesel hydraulic shunter of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) which pioneered diesel shunting in the UK. It was nominally a rebuild of a Midland Railway 1377 Class 0-6-0T steam locomotive, and was introduced in 1932.
