The P-47D Thunderbolt was one of the most famous planes of WWII. It was an outstanding single seat fighter plane that excelled in high altitude bomber escort and low altitude ground attacks. The fighter was involved in air-to-air combat and ground attacks in both the WWII European and Pacific theatres. To solve the problem of visibility issues in earlier models later Thunderbolt models were redesigned with a transparent bubble canopy, leading to the birth of the ‘Bubbletop’.
Designed by Brian Taylor this 1:7.86 scale ‘Jug’ is superbly detailed, with two large plan sheets that produce a 1550 mm (61”) model that any builder would be proud of. The model is of conventional all wood construction and moulded accessories are available, along with a laser cut wood pack. It uses a .60 cu. in. two stroke engine but experienced modellers should be able to convert it to electric power (details not supplied, so please send us information if you make a successful EP version!) It is not suitable for beginners, either to plan building or model flying.
