Full Description

The designers (Robin Fowler) aim was to produce a model that any basic low-wing pilot could fly without any fuss. So the plans for an Mk.IX were drawn up and construction could begin. The details like cannon blisters, barrels and radiators have been deliberately left off to keep the design as simple as possible.

The construction is traditional, and with a dolly or hand-launch, she flies so well.

Probably the most famous and best-loved of all Spitfires still flying today, MH434 was built in 1943 at Vickers, Castle Bromwich. Since 1970, it has participated across Europe as a key performer in the most famous airshows. MH434 is based at the historic airfield, Duxford (now home to the Imperial War Museum), where it is maintained and operated with great pride by the Old Flying Machine Company (OFMC).
