Full Description

Star Baby works out at 5.9 lb ready to sail but is only 6″ shorter than its forebear. (For the benefit of metric readers that’s about 2.68 kg and 712 mm) A rough (ish) draught was sent to well-known top class modeller Vic Driscoll who built a prototype – the model in the photographs – and conducted sailing trials. His verdict – “easy to build…nice and stable, turns on a tanner…” In fact, the model seems to comfortably outsail other boats of similar size and/or displacement in virtually any weight of wind. Incidentally, the purpose of the cabin is to elevate the access hatch to a relatively splash-free height, an advantage in choppy water, but of course, it does give a suggestion of semi-scale appearance. The cabin windows should be glazed or, if regular rough-water sailing is envisaged, even simply painted on. It would be possible to omit any superstructure, leaving just a flush deck, but this would mean that steps would be required to waterproof any hatches.

Being a smaller size will make transport and storage much easier. Performance on the water is described as excellent.
