Full Description

This design by Brian Taylor won the 1985 British National Scale championships.

This is the laser-cut wood-pack, which contains most of the shaped parts needed, such as fuselage formers and wing ribs An additional wood pack is also available, which contains most of the sheet, strip and plywood to complete the aircraft. A moulded plastic cockpit canopy and engine cowling are also available for this model, as well as an aluminium propeller spinner. The ideal power source is either a .75 -.80 cu. in. 4-stroke or a .60 cu. in. 2-stroke but experienced modellers should be able to convert it to electric power (details not supplied). It is not suitable for beginners, either to plan building or model flying.

The Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most outstanding fighter aircraft of  WWII, much loved by its pilots, and it played a pivotal role in the Battle of Britain. Its airframe proved to be extremely adaptable, capable of using far more powerful engines and taking on far greater loads than its original role as a short-range interceptor had anticipated. This would lead to 24 marks of Spitfire, and many sub-variants within the marks, being produced throughout the war and beyond. Throughout the twelve-year development process (1935-1948) there were no outstanding failures of the basic design, which is a real testament to the original genius of R.J. Mitchell, his successor Joseph Smith, and the design teams they led.

What’s in a Laser or CNC Cut Wood Pack? – A CNC or laser cut wood pack contains most, if not all, of the intricately shaped parts shown on the plan, which would be difficult or time-consuming to cut out by hand. It does not contain any sheet or strip wood, which you will need to buy separately. Alternatively, you can purchase an Additional Wood Pack, if available. Our Laser or CNC Cut Wood Packs only contain balsa, ply and lite ply and do not include other materials that may be required to complete the model, such as hardwoods, metals and GRP sheets.
