Full Description

The Vought OS2U Kingfisher entered service in 1940, and was widely used as a shipboard catapult-launched observation, gunnery reporting and air-sea rescue aircraft by the US Navy and US Marine Corps. Despite its modest performance it proved a rugged and versatile aircraft, and remained in front line service until very late in WWII. It was also operated by the Royal Navy, Soviet Navy and Royal Australian Air Force.

This 1:7.43 scale, 58” wingspan scale model of the OS2U Kingfisher is ideal for smaller I/C engines. The two-sheet plan shows full details of the all wood construction and with its low wing loading the model is a slow, stable flyer suitable for beginners to R/C scale aircraft building. The plan illustrates the wheeled undercarriage version. A laser-cut wood-pack is available which contains most of the shaped parts needed such as fuselage formers and wing ribs, but you will need additional sheet and strip wood and ply to complete the model, as well as all the hardware needed. A moulded plastic cockpit canopy and engine cowling are available for this model, as well a metal propeller nut. The model was designed to be powered by smaller two-stroke or 4-stroke engines but experienced modellers should be able to convert it to electric power (details not supplied, so please send us information if you make a successful EP version!) It is not suitable for beginners, either to plan building or model flying.
