Wire is one of the most humble of craft supplies. It’s cheap, it’s readily available yet with a little know how you can create the most stunning pieces of jewellery. You need so few tools to get going, just a pair of wire cutters and some round nosed pliers and you can start to create wrapped loops, chains and gorgeous three dimensional pieces. Your skills will develop very quickly too as with most things a little practise makes perfect! Add a few beads for colour and interest and you have everything you need for most of the projects in this publication.
If you are an absolute beginner I’d suggest turning to page 77 for ‘Toot Sweet’ this is an ideal starter project, it is so somple even the kids can have a go. Then maybe try our gorgeous on trend ‘Bohemian Bangles’ on page 6, you’ll create these in no time and soon be making them in every shade! ‘Autumn Lace’ (Page 88) is a great little project using a wire jig, that allows you to easily create identical wire links and forms.
If you want to expand your skills we have a delicious selection of more complex projects for you to try. ‘Fresh as a Daisy’ (page 56) features a stunning statement necklace with a beautiful dimensional daisy focal point. Or try ‘My Romance’ starting on page 10 this exuberant necklace is just so pretty and intricate it’s bound to get many admiring glances when worn.
For something different havea go at Kumihimo braiding with wire in our ‘Totally Wired’ bracelet project starting on page 78. It looks far more complicated than it actually is. Or if crochet is your thing try crochet with wire and make our vintage inspired lacy cuff bangle, ‘Vintage Lace (page 74). A particular favorite of mine is the ‘Pretty as a Picture’ pendant on page 36, the wire tree and bluebells just remind me of home – I need to make one of these!
